AFP-MO Calls on State House to Pass SB 727, Expand School Choice
Jefferson City, MO – Upon the passage of Missouri Senate Bill 727 today, Americans for Prosperity – Missouri (AFP-MO) calls on the House to expedite its passage so that students across the state can gain access to high quality education options outside the public school system.
The new legislation under consideration would expand access to the “MOScholars Program,” a tax credit scholarship program for children who require special education services or are eligible for free and reduced lunches. SB 727 removes the geographic limits on which students can participate, increases the maximum amount tax credits for allocation from $50 million to $75 million, and creates a firewall to protect homeschoolers.
It will also allow charter schools to operate in Boone County, opening new and innovative education options for one of Missouri’s largest urban centers.
AFP-MO state director, Jeremy Cady, gave the following statement:
“With a vast majority of Missourians demanding more education freedom, passing this bill is a no-brainer. We’re thankful that the Senate has finally made our state’s students a top priority this year and urge the House to promptly send it on to the governor’s desk.
“This bill is a critical next step in making school choice in Missouri universal, so that every student can get the education that’s right for them, no matter their circumstances.”
