AFP-MO Praises ‘MOScholars’ Scholarship Expansion
JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Today, Americans for Prosperity – Missouri (AFP-MO) celebrated the expansion of Empowerment Scholarships Accounts Program (“MOScholars”) passing in the Missouri House of Representatives – a landmark victory for the education freedom movement in the Show Me state that will prioritize students’ diverse needs.
SB 727 will increase the range of students across the state who can participate in MOScholars and increase its tax credit cap from $50 million to $75 million. Additionally, it will install religious safeguards for homeschool families, raise public school teachers’ base salaries, and allow charter schools to operate in Boone County.
AFP-MO state director, Jeremy Cady, gave the following statement:
“With today’s victory in the House, MOScholars is finally living up to its potential to be one of the best school choice programs in the country. We’re grateful for the state legislature’s work to provide more options and support for families in choosing the best education for their children – whether it be homeschooling, public schools, or Missouri’s burgeoning charter schools.
“Governor Parson should sign this bill immediately and end his term in office on a high note for delivering on his promises to steward the next generation of Missouri scholars.”
Background:
This month, AFP-MO carried out a six-figure advertising and advocacy campaign pushing for the program’s expansion, which urged voters from across the state to contact their representatives and share their support.
