AFP-MO Thanks 29 Cosponsors of REINS Legislation, Highlights 75% Support Among Voters
JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Americans for Prosperity-Missouri (AFP-MO) celebrated a key milestone in the fight to rein in Missouri’s bureaucracy today as the 29th state representative became a cosponsor of HB 664, the Missouri REINS (Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny) Act.
Of over 1,700 bills in the Missouri house, REINS has the largest number of cosponsors of any bill in this year’s legislative session.
Three in four (75%) of likely voters said they agree with provisions in the Missouri REINS Act that require “any new regulations that could have a major impact on Missouri’s economy and taxpayers should require approval by the state legislature.”
Gary Hollis, AFP-MO State Director, gave the following statement:
“With overwhelming support from voters and lawmakers across the state, it’s clear that now is the time to pass this transformational regulatory reform in Missouri. The Missouri REINS Act is a golden opportunity for the legislature and Governor Kehoe to make Missouri into the friendliest regulatory environment for small businesses and entrepreneurs in the Midwest.
“AFP will not rest until the REINS Act becomes law in Missouri. We call on the legislature to not delay, and to pass the Missouri REINS Act in 2025.”
Background
This year, AFP is fighting to pass REINS-style legislation in nearly two dozen states by unleashing its grassroots army to inform citizens in key regions, deploying targeted digital ads and mail campaigns, and connecting constituents with their elected representatives in support of regulatory reform.
AFP-MO activists have sent over 1100 emails to Missouri lawmakers in support of REINS legislation since the end of March. The companion Senate bill (SB 350) previously passed through committee, and HB 664 is scheduled for a hearing in the Missouri House Committee on Government Efficiency on Tuesday, April 29.
